Magazines blog assessment

1) What is a convention of a magazine cover? Give an example from Tatler. [2 marks]

there is a cover or sell line that is around the central image and one of the cover lines is 'James Corden's LA life ' also it has a main cover line which is ' the new posh' .

2) How does the front cover of Tatler use media language to appeal to its target audience? [6 marks]

First , we denotate the big pink title 'Tatler' which is written in serif font .This emphasis that the magazine is  authorities ,traditional , modern and fancy and expensive or rich. This also connotes to us that it is for upper class people and for more educated and sophisticated people .We see cover lines around the magazine and also we see the women who is wearing fancy jewellery this also suggest rich and she is wearing traditional clothes .We see a quote big in sanserif in bold big writing in pink at the bottom , this connotes pink so more for women and girls and mostly for younger generation .The sanserif shows that also the magazine is ,traditional  in a cool way and is still for younger audience and its modern. One of the cover lines says 'oops all my clothes fell off ! ' this might tell a bad reputation about women in society and make them seem that they are trying to show off themselves or attract men , and this might all about women is reputation in society. Also the words is like spoken in more slang than very formal. 

the women was wearing traditional costume , with perfect picture with light and with a green background and the picture looks like its taken outside but its blurry. colour scheme is organised and matches with each other . there is the green colour in the magazine which might represent calm and nature , there is pink it might be for women or girls . the women in the magazine is posed still  for the picture in a normal position but either the camera or the model is closer to the camera, in order for her costume to show too . the woman in the image has very thick black eyeliner and this might return to  traditional costume , the hair might look weird and messy and looks like its in a messy bun but is well straightened and makeup perfectly good . the model has jewellery on her neck and very fancy and rich looking accessories . this shows that the audience have lots of money they spend on shopping and holidays , so they are upper class which means they care about social statues and their reputation in society and how people see them. there is the cover lines about women and they might suggest the opposite way of what they are trying to tell the audience of women but also it might a good thing they are showing or telling as most of the readers might be women and the person in the central image is a female . they try to speak in a formal or maybe cool slang way too in the magazine to show its cool and traditional . 

3) How does the front cover of Reveal magazine represent female celebrities? [12 marks]

First, The front cover of the reveal magazine represents female celebrities in a positive way as being accessible , relatable and typical , jus like us. this is because we can see Kelly brook staffing  big piece of cake into her mouth , as we know celebrities as being skinny, fit and always has their diet and routine and eat healthy to not break their diets too we can see it different and surprising as she is a celebrity and has stopped her diet and is eating ; women in Britain care about diet, gossip, relationships, mother hoods.  Kelly brook also used to be a model and  a television presenter as she is very famous and an important , well known celebrity. As they care about their representation in society and their looks and style in public. So reveal showed us Kelly brook in a typical way and how we can be relatable and she can be just like us. reveal also is telling us how they have exciting lives and that we would want to take part of .  However, this image was a paparazzi's shot that has been taken of Kelly and many others in the magazine front cover , that aren't wearing makeup, costume, good hair  and aren't fully perfect. we can see reveal representation celebrities' using paparazzi's shots in their day business like on the phone, eating and not looking perfectly good , and it gives us an insight into their lives, which makes them look relatable and showing us how the person is glamorous in the shot and real , normal just like all the other people. The pictures have been taken without being planned or setup and sometimes celebrities might not spot or know about it. We can see many celebrities in the magazine too with the paparazzi's shots just like Kelly , mark and Michael , Katie , Peter, scarlet and etc. Celebrities are presented as important and desirable – but the photography is designed to make them look like ‘normal’ people.

 

However, the front cover of the reveal magazine presents female celebrities in a negative and subversive way as women in Britain care about diet, gossip, relationships, mother hoods and should care about. Its also like reveal saying to women in society this is what you should be and should care about. we can see in the magazine Lauren that has been meeting up with a guy called Joey in jail as she said in 'my true story' , ''it was instant attraction when I met joey in jail'' this made her representation bad as it made her seem like she was in jail and met him there but she wasn't , only he was in jail. also how she got attracted to him and got in a strong relationship with him while he is in jail and writing to him. This is unusual to hear about from celebrities and that they are doing such things like that, hearing that also might get her a bad mouth and ruin her representation in society, especially knowing the guy is in jail which might show that he is a bad guy and did something so he is in jail for it. this will show bad representation for women in the society as its saying women will do anything for a relationship and a guy and would want a relationship badly as they want to attract men is well ; it represents that they are interested in having a relationships and obsessed with getting a boyfriend or a husband. also there is mark and Michelle a couple who are famous , she is an actress and he is in a reality TV star and there is Katie and peter , he is a celebrity that got married had kids then got divorced. So we see her plots a meeting with her ex peter .so reveal showed some celebrities in the front cover magazine as obsessed with relationships and drama and shows us that its dramatic , overly emotional and shows female celebrities in a subversive way. 

Finally, Also female celebrities can also be presented in a positive way as conventional (typical) , caring and being good mothers. Also typical that we would want to see as celebrities being in a mother hood , loving and motherly. As we can see in the magazine Beyoncé and Cheryl becoming mothers and having a baby bump as it says, ''Cheryl becomes a very posh mum '' and '' blooming baby bumps'' as it saying Beyoncé looks wonderful and a positive good looking, mum. Beyoncé looks pale from her light hair and shiny accessories or clothing. She looks pale and almost white and from a white centric. Showing that mostly all celebrities are white and that the magazine is aimed at older than teenagers but younger than middle aged people. Which is aimed more at working class people who would afford to spend 99 p in a magazine when they go to the supermarket. Which also suggests to us that they use sanserif which is not a traditional magazine but a modern, friendly , drama , cool and family one . Also celebrities do things just like us such as dieting and mother hood , it reinforces the typical conventional idea of women as maternal as mothers and them wanting to have children and families. Celebrities who are mothers are seen in a very positive light. Beyoncé and Cheryl also are very famous American and British singer artists.

However reveal never mentioned any celebrities and women being successful in their work it just about relationships, drama and children and mother hoods. also that celebrities not being traditionally glamorous in the reveal magazine. celebrities who are mothers are seen in a very positive light, where others having secret meetings and exclusive relationships with people tend to be seen as dramatic and hidden.  As reveal show The people represented on the cover are mostly celebrities and well known actors, reality television stars and music artists.
