OSP & Videogames: An introduction

1) What were the first videogames like?

The first video games were borne upon mighty post-war mainframes: designed for rapid codebreaking and the calculation of ballistic trajectories.

2) How have videogames changed over time?
The expanding demographics of gamers and the amount of people playing is increasing. 

3) What do the most successful games have in common? Answer this in as much detail as you can. Think about audience pleasures - what do people like about playing videogames?
They all have vicarious pleasures to the audience and gamers they get to do whatever they want in the game and experience things through the characters that they are playing in. Also successful games now usually have interesting Themes and Visual Styles as they give the audience full control and entertainment. People like playing video games as they can be addicted sometimes as they like playing games and levels that challenge them and makes them loose because of that they will keep trying to reach the level they want to reach.

4) What criticisms have been made towards videogames?

They can be addicting and give people anxiety and make them anxious. They can change the whole personality  and behaviors of someone depending on the game they are playing. As well as making problems with industry and creators of different games that also creates drama through social media.

In 2017 there was a million players of fortnite worldwide. However, now there is about 350 million players.

2) Why is it so popular? What are the audience pleasures of the game?
It’s free its online and you can play it anywhere any time and on any device, as well as it’s fun and it has offbeat sense of humor. There is violence in the game and everyone enjoys that to kill others in the game in order for them to win. They all enjoy to fight and challenge themselves and others.

3) Why might some people criticise Fortnite?
People criticise Fortnite because it changes the behaviors of the person playing it and increases their anger and violence due to loosing. Also they will say it all about violence and killing others and using guns and dangerous and realistic equipment to kill others.

''A fantastic game for all the family.'' I disagree with this comment because even though its not realistic but it still has the same concept in life as well as its violence and teaches them with equipment to kill such as guns and etc. 

''Except that the game has an inbuilt sliding difficulty which depends on the level of each player. It is designed to award even the worst players so they keep coming back for more. It will also occasionally wipe out better players so they don't get bored.'' i agree with this comment because the goal of games is to attract audience and keep them playing the game and this is the reason that they get addicted to it and doesn't stop playing .
