Paper 2 LR: blog tasks

 1) Type up any comments/WWW/EBI from your teacher. You don't need to write your total number of marks if you don't want to.

EBIs:

-Provide evidence from extract in Q1.3

- explain points more and how they communicate

- revise CSPs and newspaper ownership

Read through the official AQA mark scheme for this exam. This is very helpful as the paper was a real past exam paper and therefore the mark scheme tells us a lot about what AQA are expecting us to produce. The original question paper is here if that is helpful too.

2) Using the mark scheme, write a question-by-question analysis of your performance. For each question, write how many marks you got from the number available and identify any points that you missed by carefully studying the AQA indicative content in the mark scheme. Example:

Q1.2: 5/8

Q1.3: 4/12

Additional points: I didn't write about the non-verbal codes mentioned in the question. Looking at the mark scheme, I could have written about the acting, the camerawork and angles or the mise-en-scene to discuss how the science-fiction genre has changed between 1963 and present day and I should rely more to the extract and talk about the clip.eg Corakinus is a familiar sci-fi character: the alien villain. He is ruthless and amoral. In the extract he has no compassion or sympathy for April and his motives are entirely selfish.

Q2: 11/20

I should have better argument point like : In the early 1960s women were more likely to conform to traditionally stereotypical gender roles with a focus on domesticity rather than work. However by 1963 there were signs of changes in social values and attitudes which later emerged as a full scale sexual revolution.

Q3

The newspaper industry is self-regulated through IPSO

The role of IPSO is a newspaper regulator.

Q4: 13/20

I should give examples to support my points from the CSP for example, The mastheads communicate different meanings which will appeal to their target readership. The Times masthead is black on a white background and continues right across the top of the page suggesting a sense of authority while the serif font communicates tradition and unchanging values.

Q5: 5/20

The political influence of News UK can be seen in the CSP edition of The Times through its coverage of the Muirfield story. The paper is broadly sympathetic to the golf club. The front page lead is a story about an opinion poll in Scotland where the outcome is in line with the News UK view that Scotland should remain within the UK. Arguably, this story would not have been given the same prominence if the majority opinion was found to be in favour of Scottish independence.

3) Based on the whole of your Paper 2 learner response, plan FIVE Paper 2 CSPs / topics / theories that you will prioritise in your Media revision timetable leading up to the June exam.
