Galaxy 'Chauffeur' advert

1) Why is the advert set in the 1950s? What audience pleasure does this provide?

Audrey Hepburn was a huge Hollywood star in the 1950s and 1960s. this provides nostalgia .

2) Which of Propp's character types are represented in the advert? (Note: just choose two or three character types that are definitely used in the advert - it does not use them all).

Hero, the man in the car - he was the man who then took the girl and saved her and her time by going out of the bus because it stopped moving.

Villain, market stall- it stopped the bus and made the problem.

Heroine/Princess, Audrey Hepburn - main character

3) How does the advert's narrative (story) follow Todorov's theory of equilibrium?

This is  because first Audrey was on the bus then ( disequilibrium ) crash happens into the market stall and stops the bus. finally Audrey takes the driver is hat and pt its on the man is head to be her new 'chauffeur' so she gets in the car and drives her off.

4) Who is Audrey Hepburn?

She was the main character in the advert and she does the most part of it.  Audrey Hepburn was a huge Hollywood star in the 1950s and 1960s. She was associated with Hollywood glamour and style and was also a fashion icon and model.

5) Why did Galaxy select Audrey Hepburn for this advert?

This is because they though 'she is presented as heritage and classiness'. she is also represented in movie she did as classic and did similar characters.she was represented as a perfect looking celebrity.Galaxy selected Audrey Hepburn for this advert to relate to the target audience as a comparable celebrity as they have presumably watched her movies and would identify the celebrity at sight.

6) What is intertextuality?

Intertextuality is where one media product (e.g. Galaxy) makes reference to other media products (e.g. Audrey Hepburn movies such as 1953 film Roman Holiday) to interest and engage the audience. there was the classic luxurious car. with the cliff, sea, beach so a romantic view and setting.

7)What Audrey Hepburn film is suggested in this advert and how is this effect created (e.g. mise-en-scene - CLAMPS: costume, lighting, actors, make-up, props, setting)?

she has perfect heavy make-up on.she has a costume and all is perfect looking women outside. so they are also objectifying that women always has to look perfect when they are out or in the house. also she became powerful when she took the bus driver is hat and put it on the other man to make him her chauffeur , so she controlled that. all her makeup costume , hair are all perfect.

8) What are the connotations of Audrey Hepburn and celebrity in this advert?

She is shown as a classic , heritage and elegant celebrity and is perfect. she is shown as rich and classic. also that she is nostalgic and luxurious. In Conclusion Audrey Hepburn is used to trigger the adult target audience to feel nostalgic and reminisce on the past.

9) What representations of gender can you find in this advert?

There were two men which both were the drivers and the one controlling the transportation of the people and the woman. also there is shown that there is romance between the two genders. women has to be dressed perfectly were the chauffeur man was wearing normal clothes. also how the bus driver smiled at her which shows that men are controlling and flirting. the men are the heroes and Audrey was the princess then she turned into her own hero.

10) Are stereotypes reinforced or subverted in the Galaxy advert? Give examples.

They are reinforced as there is the romantic country and place in Italy. with the classic luxurious car and next to a coast line. its all represented as romantic and calm advert  and the Galaxy helped Audrey and the man saved her. however, it can be subverted that men has control and women has to be still dressed up perfectly and just  be flirted with . women has to look perfect and pretty all the time, she also went with a random man in his car ? . so there can be reinforced but also subverted stereotypes in this advert.
Also it was quick how she was the princess and he was the hero until she quickly switched to the hero and become her own hero.
