Statement of Intent: Feedback and learner response

 

1) Read your feedback carefully and then write a summary of it in your own words using WWW / EBI.

WWW: This is a clear statement of intent with a good idea for a TV drama sequence that meets the science fiction/fantasy genre brief. Media language is a strength with a range of clearly planned shots and aspects of mise-en-scene. More on audience and representation could push this to the top levels.

EBI:

  • Although your concept is clearly science fiction / fantasy, I’m not sure how it relates to a school setting? Your point about a relatable school setting for the audience is good but I just don’t see how it fits into the wider narrative.
  • Re-work the opening paragraph – you are using unnecessary words that you could save for more detail elsewhere. Perhaps use bullet points to get across the main aspects of the show without using too many words?
  • I would look to improve the section on representation – I like the way you plan to subvert stereotypes with dominant female characters but offer a bit more detail here including how you are going to create those representations (e.g. costume, make-up, camera angle etc.)
  • Check your written English – it’s important to get key aspects of media terminology right (e.g. connote).

3) How can you improve the use of media terminology in your Statement of Intent?

using words as subverts , reinforces , mise-en-scene , camera shots and movements as close up , over the shoulder shot, and fast pace.  

4) Representation and stereotyping was a weakness in some drafts. How will you address the key concept of representation in your next draft?

I will challenge and subvert typical stereotypes of females and racism against black people by having two black females as my casting. Also they will be emphasised as strong, individual and dominant by being violent with their black outfit costume.  

5) Finally, think about audience. Why would the target audience (teenagers and young adults) enjoy your TV drama concept?

they would enjoy my tv series as it will be fantasy and strange as it will be dramatic and odd as 2 female leaders are fighting to death , they would be excited to find out who dies and gets the planet first.
